Treating and Preventing Foot Pain
The foot is a complex structure that is tasked with helping your keep balance, walk, run, jump, and cushion every step. There are many parts to the foot that work together, without you even knowing it, to help make all those things happen. However, when there is foot pain, caused by several different factors, those things we take for granted quickly become labored, and very uncomfortable.
Foot pain is something that afflicts many people today. Through different forms, it is common to see several people at home with some sort of foot injury or foot pain. Treating and preventing foot pain can be easily done at home, or through a doctor's care.
Seek A Good Diagnosis
Foot pain can happen in a variety of different places on your foot. What you might think is the cause of your pain might not be it at all. It could be something completely unrelated to the actual problem. It could be a symptom. For example, high blood pressure can cause swelling, and pain, in the joints or the foot in general. You might think this is arthritis, or a sprain of some kind and miss the chance to catch your high blood pressure before it can do serious damage to your overall health.
Seek a qualified physician to give you a sound diagnosis of your foot pain before you begin treating it yourself.
Initial Foot Pain
If, however, you do know that the pain is from a sports related injury, or something that just happened you can take some steps to help alleviate the pain and begin the healing process. If you have sprained your ankle, twisted it, or just stretched the ligaments, immediate application of ice and elevation will keep the swelling down and prevent severe bruising. With these types of foot pain there will be some bruising and swelling of the area, but quickly applying ice will help with that.
Once you have the swelling and some of the pain take care of then wrapping your foot up and resting it is the best medicine for an injury such as the ones described above. If the pain is still severe after a few days, and there is darkness and discoloration to the area, then seek out a doctor's diagnosis in case the injury is more severe than you realized.
Treating And Preventing Foot Pain
Many contributing factors to foot pain can be easily prevented with a little care and foot maintenance. Making sure you have good fitting shoes, dry socks, and insoles if you need them are great ways to stop many of the common ailments like joint pain, fungus, and dry feet from occurring.
If something does happen to cause foot pain, then a doctor's help can be quite beneficial. If the underlying cause is something more serious than a sprain or athletes foot, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or deformities, then more advanced treatment and surgeries will have to take place.
Foot pain, while most of the time isn't serious or life threatening, can be serious if not treated in a timely manner.
